Pauline is a photographer, ceramicist, and student of medicine, a true renaissance woman and gentle spirit. I first met Pauline in 2020 on the cosmic void that is Instagram. She sent me photographs taken of a mural by Jean Cocteau. My mom was a mural artist my whole childhood and this simple gesture meant so much to me. I don’t remember who stumbled upon who first… all I remember is being immediately drawn to the way she sees and captures the world around her.

Messages between Pauline and I…

What are you drawn to when taking photographs and working with ceramics?

“What always attracts my eye is color and beautiful natural light. Textures too. I love when you have a sensation of the feel of something just by taking a photograph. These things have such an important role in my process. When creating ceramics, I always think about the shape and color I want my piece to be, but end up guided by the clay… and I love that! I love the unexpected possibilities that emerge from these two processes”

Are you still studying medicine? Is there a relationship between art and medicine for you?

“Yes, I am! I still question my place in these studies from time to time… Probably because studying medicine has led to a strong need to create things, to capture and also surround myself with beauty. I was always creative as a child. I loved to visit museums, but my artistic practice didn’t take this shape until I was in medschool!”
